And I'm sure the first thing you did when you got here, James, was to gather everyone in a circle, and tell them about the man you shot in cold blood the night before you got on the plane. So why don't we just skip the part where you two pretend to be righteous. I'm taking that medication back to Claire. And you're gonna let me. Because if she doesn't get it, she's gonna die. And the last thing that either of you need right now, is more blood on your hands."

Juliet Burke was once a brilliant fertility researcher from Miami. A woman whose marriage had went up in smoke, even as her career was starting to flourish with every new discovery she made, her entire world mostly revolved around giving her cancer-stricken older sister Rachel the chance to conceive a child.

And then she met Richard Alpert and her entire world changed in a blink.

The man she'd both hated and loved was hit by a bus, her sister finally conceived, and Juliet found herself accepting a job in what she believed was Portland, Oregon, but just after she accepted, she found out that wasn't the case. She was taken to an island in the middle of nowhere in the hopes that she could find out what was happening to make pregnant women there die and was promised that she could leave within a few months.

Three years passed.

From a mousey, shy, timid young woman who preferred to blend into shadows, rather than be the center of attention, Juliet was forced to grow hard in certain ways to deal with the drastic change in her living enviroment, becoming snarky, often blank, and occasionally merciless. Taken away from everything she loved and kept in a place she didn't understand against her will, she learned how to lie and manipulate, a talent she used to her advantage when she believed she found herself a way out of her prison. She's a woman who knows what she wants and will do anything to get it, but even as hard as she's gotten, she's still a compassionate human being who will go to any lengths to protect and defend the people she cares about. She may be a liar and occasionally a traitor, but she's also a doctor before anything else.

At her core, Juliet's a broken woman who knows how to survive any way she can, because it's all she really can do.
